Courant Zéro

Courant Zéro is the electronic music project of Montreal-based composer, filmmaker, and multimedia artist Maxime Corbeil-Perron. Drawing from a practice that spans electronic music, electroacoustic composition, improvisation, sound art, experimental cinema, and audiovisual performance, he creates immersive works that blur the boundaries between listening, perception, and materiality.

Originally trained as a pianist and jazz drummer, Corbeil-Perron has spent decades exploring experimental music through bands, collaborative projects, solo releases, and interdisciplinary works. He has released more than fifteen albums under various projects and pseudonyms, co-founded the experimental music label Kohlenstoff Records, and composed works for ensembles including Quatuor Bozzini, Ensemble SuperMusique, Ensemble d’Oscillateurs, and Continuum Ensemble.

His work has been presented internationally at festivals and institutions including Mutek, INTONAL, L.E.V., WeSA, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Vienna Shorts, and Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. As a composer, he received an Honorary Mention in Digital Music and Sound Art at Prix Ars Electronica in 2021, while his films and audiovisual works have earned awards and recognition from festivals around the world.

Recent projects have increasingly engaged with media archaeology, exploring relationships between obsolete technologies and contemporary digital tools in search of new aesthetic possibilities. Under the Courant Zéro project, these interests converge through electronic music that blends synthesis, field recordings, electroacoustic techniques, and improvisation into cinematic forms.
